How are you embracing your “here?”

Don’t worry, this isn’t one of those philosophical “Why are we all here on this planet? Where did we come from?” posts. I went to a meeting at church last night for small group leaders and there were a lot of individuals who would be leading a group for the first time. Mark Shull, the Director of Men’s Groups, shared something with all of the leaders (both new and old) that has resonated with me today. “You are here for a reason!” He was talking specifically about why all the leaders who were in attendance last night were at the meeting, but it could be applied to life in general.

God has put you in the place where you currently are for a reason. We may not understand any of the details as to why or what is going on, but HE does. Don’t get so caught up with thoughts like “Why am I still living in this city?” or “Why am I still at this job?” or even “Why am I still without a job right now?” Focus on what you can do while you are in your current “here.” Who are the people around you? How can you have an impact on their life by serving them?

Personally, I get so frustrated with my current situation – I’ve been unemployed for almost 14 months, I’m not living in the area of town where I want to live, I am not married, and I do not have a family of my own. I am approaching a certain age where I thought all of these issues would be resolved, but apparently God has another plan in mind. I truly don’t understand one bit of this and I’m trying my best to do what I can, but more often than not, I let the current circumstances of my life get the best of me. I am trying to be like Paul in Philippians 4:11-13:

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

In what ways are you trying to embrace where God has you in your life now?

    i can identify with some of your frustrations, and i came upon Philippians 4:6 and I realized God Knows that through various trials in our lives we would get discouraged, frustrated, anxious, etc. and I think through that He Is Teaching me a lesson to endure it all with patience instead of frustration

      yalandarose, thank you for your comment! I definitely agree. I was challenged recently by a speaker at our Singles Leader Retreat. She spoke on 1 Samuel 3:10 and challenged us to be like Samuel…be willing to say “Speak Lord, Your servant is listening” and to truly mean it. I am trying to apply that to my life and let God speak to me through the circumstances with which I am currently dealing.
